The best of the sporting world on Twitter for March 10-17

TwitterANOTHER thrilling week in the sports and punting Twitterverse has produced some absolute gems for our entertainment.

This is the week in 10 Tweets.

We forgive you Virat

Virat Kholi has gone public begging women’s forgiveness for the jerks, cat-callers and stalkers on International Women’s Day.

Wow.

Virat: an apology is an admission of guilt! We as men don’t need that sort of heat on our door step! Deny, deny, deny!

Anyway, clearly Virat identifies with that creepier sort of man. I myself need to Tweet a photo of me giving a thumbs up, winking and smiling, with a top line of: “YOU’RE WELCOME”, and a bottom line, “from all the considerate, kind, caring, top blokes in the world on International Women’s Day.”

WilliamHill.com has Kholi’s India at $1.42 favorites against New Zealand ($2.80) as well as another 40 markets to choose from on their March 16 clash at the ICC T20 World Cup.

When did Tennis get so edgy?

Over the last ten years tennis has been about as exciting as watching grass grow, and then having Novak or Roger play on it…

Every major tournament has been won by a handful of people for the last decade. Any excitement has been sucked out of tennis. Even watching Roger Federer cry after a win or loss has lost its charm.

But recently all sorts of hell has broken loose and tennis has become edgy and cool again! First Nick Kyrgios appeared with his bad hair cuts and genuine bad boy attitude. When he wasn’t wearing ALL white at Wimbledon he was telling Stan Wawrinka that Kokkinakis banged his missus.

Then there were allegations that the top handful of winners essentially played rock, scissors paper before a tournament to decide who would win it. That’s right kids, old fashioned match fixing.

Now Maria Sharapova, the super-sonic squealer, has come out as a drug cheat!

What scandal can we look forward to next? Tampered with tennis balls? Hawkeye going rogue? Bubbling on court?

Bet365.com has Serena Williams at $3 favorites to win the WTA Indian Wells tournament. Check out Bet365.com for more odds.

More tennis hijinx

Those increasingly interesting tennis players are at it again with uber-brat Nick Kyrgios picking two fights via Twitter in the same day. Kyrgios even deleted a Tweet mocking Bernard Tomic’s record setting 28 minute loss to Jarkko Nieminen in 2014. All this name calling stemmed from Tomic balking at the fact Kyrgios missed a Davis Cup match because he was a little under the weather.

Kyrgios’ rage-Tweet pointed at writer Ben Rothenberg was because Rothenberg insinuated Lleyton Hewitt was an average player at best.

What have we learned from this whole fracas? Monitor Kyrgios’ Twitter time.

Adam Scott wins again

Golf: the perfect way to ruin a good walk. At least that’s what Winston Churchill used to think.

Adam Scott has won his second consecutive tournament, winning the WGC Cadillac Championship by a stroke this week. This sees Scott carry some red-hot form into the Masters.

CrownBet.com.au has Adam Scott at $12 to take out the Masters behind fellow Aussie Jason Day ($11), Jordan Spieth ($7.50) and Rory McIlroy ($7).

Fa’amanu Brown: dumbest man in sport

This one speaks for itself really. Just because a bloke can play footy doesn’t mean he’s in danger of being inducted in to Mensa.

Despite having a real heavy thinker like Brown on their books, his team, the Cronulla Sharks, are at $15 to win the NRL Grand Final according to LuxBet.com.au.

Newcastle fire McClaren, hire Benitez

In a last ditch effort to keep their spot in the EPL, Newcastle United have fired Steve McClaren as manager and immediately announced Rafa Benitez as his replacement.

This gives Benitez 10 games to turn around the club and ensure their spot in the EPL ahead of next season.

SportsBet.com.au has Newcastle as $6 outsiders against Leicester ($1.57) or a draw fancied at $4.

Who does Conor fight next?

A week after his shock loss to Nate Diaz at UFC 196 speculation has already begun about who McGregor meet next in the octagon.

The smart money sees McGregor lining up against either Jose Aldo or Frankie Edgar to defend his title later this year. With some reports coming in that McGregor wants to be a part of UFC 200.

Only time will tell…

Ronda Rousey reacts to Holm loss

Holly Holm was the person to end Rousey’s historic run of 12 straight fights and claim her bantamweight championship. But following Holm’s loss to Miesha Tate, Rousey texted UFC boss Dana White with a simple message: “Looks like I have to get back to work.”

We have missed Rousey since her defeat and punters around the world are chomping at the bitt to see her step back in the octagon. Whether she is going up against Holm or Tate doesn’t matter, we just want to see Rowdy back and better than ever. She was such a safe bet for so long.

Big Daddy Aussie Champ

Only a week after becoming Australia’s first heavyweight boxing champion, Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne is already being set upon for his next fight by David Haye.

It’s a bit rough when Browne hasn’t even received his heavyweight belt in the mail and he’s already being challenged!

Like they say: there’s no rest for the wicked.

F1 criticism

I never knew Andy Warhol was still alive, letalone involved in the F1.

Since Warhol’s overhaul of the qualifying system all the big heads in the F1 world have been highly critical. Maybe Andy needs to stick to Campbell’s soup can’s and pictures of Marilyn Monroe’s head and leave this car racing caper to the professionals.

WilliamHill.com has the F1 futures with Lewis Hamilton the hands down favorite at $1.50. Check out WIlliamHill.com for an entire list.
