Spain v France preview
With a place in the EURO 2024 final on the line, heavyweights Spain and France face off in Munich on Tuesday night.
Last Friday, Spain secured their spot in the semi-finals with a dramatic 2-1 victory over hosts Germany. Spanish midfielder Dani Olmo opened the scoring in the 51st minute, before Germany’s Florian Wirtz scored in the 89th minute to send the match to extra time. The match looked destined for penalties until an Olmo cross found the head of Mikel Merino in the 119th minute to send La Roja into the semi-finals.
The three-time winners have been the most impressive side of the tournament so far, winning all their matches while boasting a goal record of 11-2. Always known for their strong midfield and defence, the dynamic pair of Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams on the wings has transformed Spain into a counterattacking threat.
France got through to the semi-finals in an equally dramatic manner, beating Portugal on penalties. In an underwhelming game, both defences stood strong, holding each other goalless through 120 minutes. Portugal’s Joao Felix was the only one who missed from the spot, handing Les Blues the victory.
Pre-tournament favourites with many top soccer betting sites, the French have been incredibly disappointing. They finished second in their group and are still yet to score from open play, with their only goals coming from a Kylian Mbappe penalty and two own goals.
Spain v France team news
There will be plenty of decisions for Luis de la Fuente to make in selection. Barcelona midfielder Pedri has been ruled out for the rest of EURO 2024 following a heavy challenge against Germany. Additionally, defensive pair Dani Carvajal and Robin Le Normand have been suspended after receiving their second yellow cards of the tournament.
After his success against Germany, Olmo is expected to start, while Nacho Fernandez and Jesus Navas are expected to fill the roles in defence.
Unlike Spain, France are expected to enter this clash at full strength as midfielder Adrien Rabiot returns from suspension. Eduardo Camavinga is likely to be dropped, while forward Randal Kolo Muani could make way for either Ousmane Dembele or Marcus Thuram.
Spain v France predictions
Despite both sides being stacked full of talent, it has been two very different paths to the last four. Spain have been excellent across all parts of the game, while France have been solid defensively while struggling to make genuine chances in attack. Despite the changes to their side, Spain should be too strong, winning inside 90 minutes at +160 with BetOnline.
With the two sides conceding just three goals in 10 matches combined, expect this to be a cagey affair. France have gone under the total goals line in every one of their EURO 2024 matches, while Spain have gone under in three of their last four. Under 2.5 goals is the play, paying -200 with leading sports bookmakers.
Arguably the player of the tournament so far, Spain’s Fabian Ruiz has excelled in a midfield role. The Paris Saint-Germain player has two goals and two assists, regularly bursting forward as a part of the Spanish counterattacks. Back Ruiz at +275 to score or assist.
