Origin 3 falls flat once again in the Week From the Outer

From the outer
State of Origin has come and gone for another year. Queensland have won their 10th Origin series from the last 11 years. The series was wrapped up and won after Game 2 in Brisbane, making Game 3 in Sydney last week a dead rubber.

From the get go, it was a shocking game. Both sides were dropping the pill more often than Joey Johns at a rave in London.

The game itself was overshadowed by the referees, who were clearly on a mission to prove their importance. Gerard Sutton and Ben Cummins were blowing a symphony on their whistles.

Cooper Cronk was sent to the sin bin. Andrew Fifita followed.

In the aftermath, Corey Parker was suspended – for the first time in his career – over a stray elbow and Greg Inglis got a couple of weeks because Josh Dugan has a glass jaw. Dugan should never follow in Paul Gallen’s footsteps and consider a career in boxing.

The Blues managed to get over the line in the last minute, winning the game 18-14. Michael Jennings produced one of NSW’s only positive plays in the entire series and scarpered over the line in the 79th minute to give Gallen a winning send-off.

Brock Lesnar a drug cheat? Shock horror!

In the lead up to UFC200 Mark Hunt was telling anyone who would listen that his opponent, WWE mega-star Brock Lesnar, was clearly juiced up to the gills. It made sense considering both men were built exactly the same, except Hunt was only as tall as Lesnar’s navel. The fact Lesnar doesn’t have a neck also raised some eyebrows.

How they were both the same weight class remains a mystery.

Lesnar himself tried to brush aside talk of being on the drugs that killed by River Phoenix by saying: “I’m a white boy and I’m jacked. Deal with it.” Because God knows how naturally muscly and ripped white fellas are…

Lesnar eventually overcame Hunt by smothering him like a ‘roided-up meat blanket and beating him mercilessly to win in a unanimous decision.

Several days later, the USADA came out and revealed one of Lesnar’s test results had returned positive for PEDs.

There is a rumour Lance Armstrong has reach out to Lesnar and told him to ignore everyone, insisting that “hater’s gon’ hate, hate, hate”.

While the revelation has left many in the general community stunned, most in the smaller MMA community are laughing that Lesnar was even allowed to fight to begin with. It would appear even Stevie Wonder could see Lesnar was on more juice than a Sunday morning breakfast.

Hunt has since come out demanding Lesnar be stripped of his multi-million-dollar purse from the win. He has even demanded the prize money be awarded to him! In a move that has earned him more supporters than Pokémon Go, the New Zealander has issued an ultimatum to UFC President Dana White: strip Lesnar of his winnings, or Hunt leaves the UFC.

This only continues the raft of bad luck connected with UFC200, which began with Conor McGregor’s axing for refusing to attend promotional events and peaked with Jon Jones testing positive to drugs days out from his top-card clash with Daniel Cormier.

Hopefully UFC202 won’t be quite as tainted or riddled with drama.

WilliamHill.com.au has odds on the UFC202 Main Event between Conor McGregor ($1.74) and Nate Diaz ($2.10), which is scheduled for August 20, 2016.
