Can Aussie hope Dami Im win 2016 Eurovision?

WITH the Eurovision song contest semi finals kicking off this morning, songstress Dami Im is the name on every Australian’s lips.

But can she do the nation proud and take out the world’s biggest singing contest?

She’s a $15 chance with Sportsbet.com.au, up against stiff competition from Euro powerhouses Russia, rated the $2.30 favourite, Ukraine, $5, France, $8, and Sweden, $11.

The bookie reports, though, that Im has drifted from $10 out to $15 to win the Final this Sunday morning.

“Australia is now the third best backed with Sportsbet to win the Eurovision at odds of $15,” the bookie’s Will Byrne said.

“But she has drifted in the market as the money rolls in.”

Im, a former music teacher from Brisbane, can’t wait to perform The Sound of Silence in front of a world wide 200 million strong audience.

“We are taking a lot of risks in this performance,” she told SBS News.

“If it works it’s going to be amazing. If anything goes wrong it can be a disaster.

“I feel terrified that I’m doing this huge thing and so many eyes are going to be on me.

“On the other hand I’m like ‘this is amazing, I’m so lucky to be here’.

“I’m fighting between the two emotions and I hope to focus on the enjoyment more rather than being terrified all the time.

“When I came to Australia as someone from South Korea who just moved, who didn’t speak much English and felt like I couldn’t completely fit in with the other kids, watching Eurovision was like a breath of fresh air.

Those zany cats at sportsbet.com.au have released some rather amusing markets on what Im will actually do at Eurovision.

“Who can forget the lovable Dami Im taking to the stage each week on the X Factor with her gloss all up in her grill,” the bookie’s Will Byrne said.

“It became such a talking point that online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au is taking bets on how many pearly whites of hers will have the lip colorant covered all over it.

“Thankfully, zero is tipped at odds of $1.75, with one to two paying $3. Seven or more is offered at $16.

“Dami is expected to choose red as her lipstick colour at $1.35 – with $6 for beige, $7.50 pink and $16 for silver.

“Dami Im is a classy act these days so we fully expect the lipstick to stick to her lips now she’s on the world stage.”

With world wide superstar Justin Timberlake set to take the stage at Eurovision during a competition interval, Sportsbet has released several markets on how he will impact.

The pop legend is $2 to top the Spotify Global Top 50 following Eurovision performance and $2.50 to top the ARIA charts here.

“It may be a hint that the USA is following in our footsteps and about to join as competitors next year, Sportsbet offering $2.75 they will and $1.40 they will finish better than we do,” the bookie’s Will Byrne said.

“Justin Timberlake is a huge global superstar and it could be a good hint that Eurovision is about to allow another immigrant into the competition.”

Will Aldi sell coffins?

In one of its most macabre novelty markets ever, sportsbet.com.au has released a book on which retailer will follow Costco into the coffin selling business.

With the massive warehouse wholesale giant deciding to add to its inventory by selling coffins in Australia, the Sportsbet crew has priced German giant Aldi as the $3 favourite to follow in Costco’s foot steps.

David Jones ($4) and Myers ($5) are next, just ahead of Bunnings ($5).

Total sales of over 999.5 Costco coffins for the remainder of 2016 is $1.87 and the same price for under that amount.

“Apparently, coffin sales do well in the Costco’s stores in the US so it was only a matter of time before they came Down Under, but we don’t expect too many people to be queuing up to buy one,’’ the bookie’s Ben Bulmer said.
