Netherlands to win the women’s light weight double sculls gold medal at $1.50

Friday, 11.30pm AEST

They’ve come from the clouds, but haven’t they been just brilliant? Netherlands, represented by Maaike Head and Ilse Paulis have dominated the heats and looked primed to claim the gold medal. The New Zealand pair of Julia Edward and Sophie MacKenzie have claimed the past two World Championship golds in this event and they do loom as a danger – especially at the long $13 quote – but it appears the Dutch will be too strong.

France to win the men’s light weight double sculls gold medal at $1.22

Friday, 11.30pm AEST

It’s the dawn of a new age in the men’s double sculls, with the French tipped to claim their first ever gold medal in the event. it all centres on the nearly unbeatable Jeremie Azou. Azou, remarkably, has not lost a single race since the beginning of the 2015 season, claiming the World Championship title in the process. His partner Pierre Houin is equally formidable and it appears the other rowers will be chasing their tail to fight out the minor placings.

Almaz Ayana to win the women’s 10,000m gold medal final at $1.33

Saturday, 12.30am AEST

Ethiopian distance runner Almaz Ayana is perhaps one of the best in the world at her craft, usually competing in the 3000 and 5000m events. But it’s the 10,000m event that holds the prestige at the Olympics and she is a heavy favourite to take it out. At 24, she is just beginning to enter her prime and is cherry ripe to claim the 10,000m gold at Rio. Ethiopian Tirunesh Dibaba will be hot on her tail at $5, but the only thing stopping Ayana from winning this title will be herself.

Jong Sim Rim to win the women’s 75kg weightlifting gold medal at $1.20

Saturday 1.30am AEST

The North Korean hard woman is as stern as her nutty country, having won the gold medal in the 69kg event in London in 2012. She moves up in weight, but still carries all that class and, at a red hot $1.20, it would take a massive boil over for the likes of Spains Lidia Valentin Perez ($) or Ukrainian Iryna Dekha ($13) to knock her off. Watch her power lift to the gold medal, just like Kim Jong-un would.

Teddy Riner to win the men’s +100kg judo gold medal at $1.50

Friday 11pm AEST

Frenchman Teddy Riner is the best judoka on the planet, by a long way. The charismatic ‘Teddy Bear’ owns a ridiculous eight world championships gold medals and was the flag bearer for the French as they entered the Olympic Stadium for the Rio 2016 opening ceremony. He holds the hopes of a nation in his hands and we expect him to deliver and do it with aplomb. Japanese Hisayoshi Harasawa is his main challenger at $4.33, but Riner is far to good at his discipline to let this one slide.
