EPL Week 5

EPL Week 5
A MONTH of Premier League is behind us and we are finally starting to work out who the contenders are.

Manchester City is the only team in the league that is yet to drop a point, and after proving they can score without Sergio Aguero up front Sportsbet.com.au have wound Pep Guardiola’s men into the short price of $1.91 for the title.

At the other end of the table Hull City – who were odds on to get relegated at the start of the season – are now at the $2 price for relegation and $1.61 for survival.

Plenty of interesting matches this week too as Liverpool travel to London to face Chelsea while Everton look to maintain their unbeaten start to the season against newly promoted Middlesbrough.

All odds for the opening week of the season are provided by Sportsbet.com.au.

Chelsea vs. Liverpool

Saturday, 17th September from 5am, Stamford Bridge, London

Two of English football’s biggest clubs meet in the early hours of Saturday morning – Friday night English time – in the form of the Blues from Chelsea and the Reds of Liverpool.

Chelsea dropped points for the first time this season last week against Swansea after being in a strong position.

The Blues scored first but were unable to maintain their lead, eventually drawing 2-2 against the Welshmen.

Liverpool has had a sporadic start to the season but their 4-1 drubbing of reigning champions Leicester shows they have what it takes to match the big guys in the division.

We are favouring the home side here, they are yet to drop a single point at Stamford Bridge and star striker Diego Costa is in rare touch and is nigh on unstoppable.

Multi tip: Chelsea to win – $2.25

Hull vs. Arsenal

Sunday, 18th September from 12am, KC Stadium, Hull

Surprise packets Hull City host perennial powerhouse Arsenal in a match that looks like a blowout on paper.

Hull vs. Arsenal is the SBS broadcast game of the week and Sportsbet.com.au has a correct score offer to celebrate.

Place a correct score bet on the Tigers vs. Gunners match and if your selection wins but you do not select the correct score you get cash back up to $50

Hull have defied all expectations this year, and sit in the top half of the table.

Had it not been for a cruel last-minute winner from Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford two weeks ago Hull City could be undefeated.

Locked on points alongside them is Arsenal.

The Gunners were outclassed on the opening weekend by Liverpool but have since gone on an undefeated run which has seen them win their last two games.

Arsenal have had no trouble scoring this season – as eight goals from four matches would suggest – but they have only kept a clean sheet once this campaign.

If the Gunners can tighten their defence the sky is the limit.

Hull has had the dream start but we are expecting Arsenal to be far too classy here.

Multi tip: Arsenal to win – $1.57

Everton vs. Middlesbrough

Sunday, 18th September from 2.30am, Goodison Park, Liverpool

The Toffees and the Brough meet in our third game in this week’s multi, and we are expecting the home side’s fantastic run of form to continue into week five of the season.

After their 1-1 start to the season against Tottenham, Everton have gone on to win three straight games to find themselves firmly entrenched in the top-four.

Newly promoted Middlesbrough have had a reasonable start to the season recording at least a point in three of their opening four matches to sit inside the top half of the table.

Middlesbrough’s biggest problem has been their defensive third given they have only managed to keep a clean sheet once despite coming up against lower placed teams.

Everton should win this one in a canter to keep themselves in the top-four battle.

Multi tip: Everton to win – $1.73

Southampton vs. Swansea

Sunday, 18th September from 11.15pm, St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton

We end this week’s multi on the English coastline as the Saints of Southampton host the Swans of Swansea.

Who would have expected Southampton to be the relegation zone after a month of football?

The Saints only have two points to their name after four matches, but they will be happy to get top-four aspirants Arsenal and Manchester United out of the way early.

A big lift is required if they are to emulate the feats of the last two seasons and finish inside the top half of the table.

Swansea’s start to the season has been in different to say the least.

After a brilliant away victory against Burnley to start the season the Swans dropped two very winnable games back-to-back.

A draw last week against Chelsea will be the bench mark level of effort that the Swansea faithful will be expecting week-to-week.

It is a tough assignment for the travelling team this week and we are backing the Saints to record their first win of the season.

Multi tip: Southampton to win – $1.70
