Champions vanquished and upsets galore in the Week From the Outer

From the outerTHIS week has been all about the brawlers, cheats and fallen champs.

Every fight that went down over the weekend ended up being an absolute upset!

What is going on in the world of the UFC? Champions are being crowned and dethroned with greater ease and speed than anything seen on Game of Thrones.

Another champ has been dethroned too, but this one wasn’t downed in the octagon.

Sickly Sharapova and her troublesome meds

For the richest woman in sport today, it would appear Maria Sharapova is actually a poor sickly little thing.

Sharapova came out this week and confessed to taking a WADA banned substance, Meldonium, as treatment for her family history of diabetes, irregular heart beat and magnesium deficiency.

Sounds as though she needs more than just Meldonium with that shopping list of medical maladies. Maybe she needs an oxygen tank and a pace maker too! How is Sharapova able to drag herself out of bed every morning with all of her ailments?

No wonder she groans so audibly on court: she’s clearly struggling against her health or maybe simply in pain.

Meldonium was only banned by WADA in January this year. Sharapova admitted to receiving the WADA email detailing the new list of banned substances, but that she didn’t click on the link to find out what the newly banned drugs were. That’s an assistants job anyway! Expect Sharapova’s personal assistant to be online searching for a new job this time tomorrow. The P.A. dropped the ball big time.

It’s so hard to find good help these days…

UFC 196: WTF?!

UFC 196

UFC 196 left MMA fans around the world clambering to pick up their jaws from shock and left punters referring to UFC 196 as Black Saturday. Two champions were rolled in the same night!

After weeks of name calling and mini-stoushes Nate Diaz shocked the world when he forced Conor McGregor to tap out thanks to a rear-naked choke in the second round. Diaz wasn’t even supposed to be fighting!! He was a ring-in after McGregor’s initial opponent, Rafael dos Anjos busted his foot during training.

Diaz was supposed to be a push over for McGregor, no one in their right mind thought Diaz would actually come back choke out McGregor!!

But that wasn’t even the first upset of the day! Before that Holly Holm, the mean motor scooter who finally put an end to Ronda Rousey’s undefeated record, was herself choked out by Miesha Tate in the fifth round.

Outside of that things took a karmic turn when Erik Silva was knocked out in the second round of his bout with Nordine Taleb. At the beginning of the second round, Silva went into the centre of the octagon with an extended arm, implying a sportsmanly glove touch. Instead Silva sucker-punched Taleb. Thankfully the UFC Gods were watching and Taleb knocked out Silva seconds later for the win.

CrownBet.com.au has odds available on six fights from the upcoming UFC Fight Night 85 on 20/3.

Aussie boxing champ crowned!

36 year old Aussie Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne has been crowned the WBA heavyweight champion after his defeat of Ruslan Chagaev on the weekend.

Browne is now the first Aussie to ever hold a heavyweight belt – even though the poor bloke hasn’t technically received his belt in the mail yet.

Congratulations Big Daddy!

Aussie tennis super brat’s squabbling

Aussie tennis’ super brats Bernard Tomic and Nick Kyrgios are at it again, this time taunting each other like demented children. The funny thing is, Tomic and Kyrgios were friends last week. Now they’re cracking darkies at each other. Sometimes it’s hard to keep track of the ups and downs of adolescents…

What started when Kyrgios took a sick day, missing a Davis Cup match, sparked Tomic to have a hissy fit during his loss to John Isner. Tomic was overheard saying, “Nick’s sitting down in Canberra. Bullshit he’s sick.”

Kyrgios

Kyrgios returned serve via Twitter: “Let’s not forget who holds the quickest loss on the ATP tour lol #howmanyminutesagain”, a clear reference to Tomic’s 28 minute defeat to Jarkko Nieminen in 2014.

What will happen next amid this on again/off again bromance?

WilliamHill.com has futures betting on both players performance ahead of the French Open.

Kyrgios is $101 to win, while Tomic is $201 to win. Check out WilliamHill.com for more tennis action.
