10. Golden State Warriors: WTF!?

The Golden State Warriors absolutely dominated the NBA during the regular season. They beat Michael Jordan’s ’95/’96 Bulls record of 72 wins for 10 losses and tallied 73 wins and nine losses.

Things have gone pear-shaped very quickly for the Warriors once the Playoffs got underway. First time unanimous MVP Steph Curry copped an injury and has been in and out of games ever since, staggering around like a lost kid in a shopping center.

The Warriors were able to muster a seventh game against the Thunder after Klay Thompson drained a record 11 three pointers to guide the Warriors to a 108-101 win over Oklahoma City.

9. Fatty the hatchet man

Cameron Smith finally lifted his self-imposed ban on accepting Channel Nine interviews this week by appearing on the NRL Footy Show.

Smith put a ban on Channel Nine after they aired a 60 Minutes piece on Alex McKinnon that portrayed the Melbourne, Queensland and Australia Captain as a heartless boogeyman amid the tragic McKinnon injury.

After a year, Channel Nine decided to publicly apologise to Smith. The job of apology was dropped in Paul “Fatty” Vautin’s lap like a flaming bag on a door step.

Smith’s Storm are $9 to take out the NRL Grand Final according to SportsBet.com.au.

8. Dugan out/Blues doomed?

State of Origin is upon us and it looks as though the NSW Blues’ most potent attacking weapon, Josh Dugan, is already out. Josh Morris has been rushed into the side to cover the loss of Dugan.

Despite the loss of Dugan, NSW are still slightly favored to edge out the Queensland Maroons with WilliamHill.com.au offering odds of $1.84 on the Blues and against the Maroons’ $2.

7. Red Bull might gives you wings, but not tyres…

Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo was screwed out of his maiden Monaco Grand Prix win by his own pit crew last night when they called him in for a pit stop as he was leading the race. In the worst stitch up you could imagine, Ricciardo pulled in to the pit stop only for his pit crew to forget the new tyres. The six or seven second delay while some lackey went in search of the new tyre’s was Mercdede’s Lewis Hamilton’s eventual winning margin.

Red Bull came out with all sorts of excuses, claiming the set up of the garage was in Monaco was to blame. It was a human error. But come on: isn’t that pit stop 101? Have the tyres ready ahead of the pit stop and waiting? Some poor sod is going to be a scapegoat for this outrage.

Whoever it is though, it won’t win Ricciardo the Monaco F1 that should be his now.

6. Warner finally bags IPL title

David Warner’s IPL squad, Sunrisers Hyderbad, managed to edge out favorites Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL final.

The Sunrisers batted first to notch a daunting total of 208 for Virat Kholi’s Challengers to chase down. Despite Chris Gayle and Kholi’s best efforts – notching up a partnership of 114 runs – the Challengers just weren’t able to topple the Sunrisers.

5. What happens when MMA and soccer cross?

MMA fans were left stunned last weekend when Russian fighter Timofey Nastyukhin knocked out Aussie Rob Lisita six seconds into ONE Championship 43 in Thailand.

Nastyukhin knocked out the Aussie with a right-left combo in the featherweight bout. Lisita was out like a light before his head even bounced off the canvas: Stevie Wonder could see that much. But just to ensure Lisita stayed down, the Russian lined up his head and kicked it like he was going for a goal in a penalty shoot-out. It’s called a soccer kick and it is banned in the vast majority of MMA tournaments, but not in ONE.

4. Ronaldo wins Champions League

Christiano Ronaldo’s Real Madrid won their 11th Champions League title this week. Ronaldo won the game in a penalty shoot-out 5-3 over Atletico Madrid.

This means Ronaldo finished the season with his sixth-straight season scoring at least 50 goals and he ranked as the highest goal scorer in the Champions League with 16.

3. Awkward!

An excited Jon ‘Bones’ Jones fan was corrected to an hilarious and embarrassing extent this week after taking a photo of a man at Lego Land, thinking it was Jon Jones himself. The fan, “samz” Tweeted the photo to the man himself asking if he was at Lego Land.

Jones simply replied, “lol, wrong black guy”.

Awkward! The moral of the story? Be 100% sure before you Tweet.

2. Kyrgios fined again

Nick Kyrgios’ French Open campaign was full of ups and downs, blow outs, abuse, swearing and sportsman like behaviour.

Kyrgios started his French Open by picking an argument with an umpire, allegedly abusing a ball boy and throwing Novak Djokovic under the bus by making accusations of double standards.

From there he showed great sportsmanship by encouraging his opponent, Igor Sijsling, to challenge a call that went against him. Sijsling challenged the call which was reversed. Kyrgios went on to win the match anyway though.

Now Kyrgios has been fined $6,200 after his loss to Richard Gasquet. During the match Kyrgios threw a hissy fit at his brother, screaming at him to get out of his supporter box, because he couldn’t hear his brother cheering for him.

If bookies had any sense they would be taking bets on which controversy Kyrgios will spark first at Wimbledon. Swearing – $1.30, horrific sledge of opposition – $2.50, fight with umpire – $5, act of sportsmanship – $6, breaking racket – $11, abusing crowd – $21, not wearing enough white – $25, no controversy – $501.

1. Wallabies name 39-man training squad

In a seemingly cunning move that would ensure victory over any test team in the world, Wallabies coach Michael Cheika has named two teams worth of players. What’s the perfect way to beat any team? Play two teams against them.

Brilliant.

All jokes aside though, Cheika has named a training squad with several surprises in it. League converts Eto Nabuli and Karmichael Hunt are among 10 uncapped players in the squad ahead of their Test against Eddie Jones’ England.
