I love sports and punting. I really do. Honestly.
It’s not just about the game or the action or the fight itself. It’s the background story too. The antics of the athletes. What they say. What they don’t say. Sometimes you can tell more about what an athlete or a coach is thinking by what they don’t say, or which pre-prepared media savvy speech they run with.
So what were some of the big moments in sport this week?
Alex Fasolo, a towel and one cup
Poor Alex Fasolo, he tried his best to cover his shame with a flimsy towel when he had to answer the call of nature and take a whizz in a cup. Unluckily for him, the camera’s never blink.
An AFL footballer for the Collingwood Magpies, Alex Fasolo received an official warning for urinating in a cup on the sideline during his sides NAB Challenge game against the Geelong Cats.
Unlike other Australian athletes, who have been known to urinate on-field, on police cars, on strangers or even their own mouths, Fasolo’s wiz seems to be a bit of a storm in a pee-cup.
There are some rumors that Fasolo heard there were ASADA investigators lurking around and he was terrified and wanted to preempt any requests for a urine test, so he pee’d in the cup in an effort to pull the classic line, “here’s one I prepared earlier….”
Another theory goes that he was preparing a refreshing beverage with the warm, foaming schooner in anticipation of a special guest appearance from Bear Grylls.

The return of the post-match interview?
Australia’s NRL got underway on Thursday night with the Brisbane Broncos taking on the Parramatta Eels.
It was a pretty lame game, but things got interesting when the Broncos star recruit, James Roberts, was interviewed after the game. Roberts, on how fleet footed he is, had this to say, “I’ve got more speed than Oxford Street.”
Oxford street in Sydney is littered with pubs and clubs and has a robust night life.
Since then the general media has been in full outcry mode over the fact an athlete would use a bit of a scallywag turn of phrase that referenced drugs. No doubt there will be some sort of media ban put on Roberts for this and that will be a great shame.
We need more athletes out there unafraid to speak their mind or show their true colors, because I am bored senseless with the media liaison pre-prepared, beige, boring post-match interviews.
Even in a 50-point drubbing a player from a winning team will say, “oh it was a hard fought game, the other mob played really well, but we just got there in the end.”
Rugby Union player Nick Cummins has shown the world how entertaining a post-match interview can really be with lines like, “I was off like a bucket of prawns in the sun,” or “busier than a one armed brick layer in Baghdad.”
Hopefully Roberts isn’t reprimanded at all and we can look forward to more lines like, “more speed than Tony Mokbel”.
Stephen Curry must be some sort of Warlock…
The Golden State Warriors had the most nail biting win thanks to their charismatic wizard, Stephen Curry who managed to drain a 32-foot three pointer with six tenths of a second left in the game.
Surely Steph Curry was born on a leap year when all the planets were aligned in the darkness of a solar eclipse in a field of four leaf clovers. There is no other explanation for his skill and ability. He is worth every dollar of however many billions he is worth.
